International Forum on National Parks in Beijing 8-13 Nov 2018

From 8 to 13 November 2018, Prof. Yves Girault (MNHN, coordinator of the project GEOPARK) and Yi Du (MNHN) participated in the International Forum on National Parks in Beijing. Co-organised by the Beijing Normal University (partner of the project GEOPARK) with supports from International Journal of Geoheritage and Parks, Shennongjia National Park, Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle (MNHN), etc.
The theme of the forum is “Sustainable Development of National Parks”, it focuses on innovation, coordination, openness, and sharing of knowledge and experience of sustainable development of national parks. The forum tends to build a platform for cooperation between academia, private sectors and decision makers in the field of national parks.
Based on their research conducted within the EU H2020-RISE project GEOPARK, Prof Yves Girault and Yi Du gave the talk entitled “Ecotourism / geotourism: between tensions and hybridisation of cultures in Chinese geoparks” on the first day of conference.
The two-day conference is followed by a field trip in Shennongjia National Park in Hubei province (China). Being one of the unique cases of multiple UNESCO designations (Biosphere Reserve, Global Geopark and World Heritage site and Ramsar site), this park is transforming into the new national park model. A round-table has been organized between participants of the forum and local authorities on 12 November 2018.
