SECOND AUTUMN UNIVERSITY “GEOPARK”
(Training Session II)
H2020-MSCA- RISE-2014- 644015
Cadi Ayyad University
Marrakech 17-21 October 2016
The Second Autumn University (training session II) of the European H2020 GEOPARK Project took place from 17 – 21 October 2016 in Marrakech (Morocco). The objective of this one-week training is to strengthen European & Moroccan education programmes and capacities building (students and professionals) in Geoparks, taking into account local features and issues as a systemic approac (heritage, education, territory, biodiversity, geology, tourism, sustainability, development, populations, etc.).
Chaired by Professor Ouidad Tebbaa from Cadi Ayyad University (Morocco), this second training session questions the links between Geoparks and local development with special focus on impacts for local population. Within the same theme, the consortium decided to integrate the 1 st workshop of GEOPARK project as the epilogue of this training session, as to concretize the transfer of knowledge and expertise and also to situate students in the center of actual issues in the field of Geopark on a wider stage.
First two days of the training are dedicated to lectures on the topic related to geoparks in the local context, given by both social and natural scientists from the consortium. On the third day, a field trip in the Zat Valley guided by president of Association of Friends of Zats is organized for all participants. The field trip is directly followed by the two-day international workshop where invited speakers share their experiences and thoughts on the issues of geopark and local development. Therefore, during 2 days of courses, 1 day of field trip and 2 days of international workshop, the Autumn University provides an interdisciplinary syllabus with both theoretical lectures and empirical study to students, showing them different angles to analyze realities in Southern countries, from participatory museology to economic study of social inclusion. Over 40 students attended the one-week Autumn University.
